Couldn’t get this done by Halloween, but yea better late than never eh ^q^ have some Alter Ego Halloweenies (for new followers: these are my OCs Alter Abel, Id Clover, Frou Amédée and Ego Forsythe).
Anonymous asked: sorry to bother u i just wanted to say that i really like your comic so far and the art makes me happy. also since im one of your newer followers i dont know much about the story other than whats on your DA. so i was wondering if u could just tell us a little bit more about some of the the characters (without any spoilers of course)? like ages or personalities or something? i just dont know if im missing out on some important stuff or not. if not thats ok ill figure it as the story progesses :)
It’s no bother anon, I love questions about my characters *q*
I did leave most everything about the characters vague on purpose in the first chapter. I don’t expect anybody to know anything about these characters other than what was shown there, and the stuff on my dA is pretty outdated and a lot of the info there has changed so much as to be irrelevant. So don’t worry, you’re not missing out on anything.
I’ll start including detailed character profiles and also fun facts in the comic where appropriate (probably by chapter 3). But in the meantime I’ll give their ages (approximate. I might decide to move some of them up or down a year) and give some general statements about their personalities that you’ve probably picked up on already:
Sydney, the protagonist, is 14. He’s one of many people in the story who are called “freaks” because of his yellow eyes and violent behavior (towards himself). He’s pretty cowardly and pessimistic…though his situation would leave anyone pessimistic. He’s very passive, which makes him a pretty shitty protagonist. Unlike East, he has not developed special powers, only really annoying hallucinations.
Sydney’s Hallucinations: His unnamed imaginary fiends have been screwing him over since he turned 12. They’re basically a bunch of assholes who want to inconvenience Syd at every opportunity. The one with the ribs tends to be the most loud and physical. The female one is annoyingly happy and, to Syd’s horror, has developed a bit of a crush on Simon. Spiral-eyes remains a mystery.
Simon is 22. He’s Sydney’s caretaker in the asylum and also one of the “wardens,” who are responsible for making sure everything in the asylum is in order and the patients are reasonably cared for—basically like a prison warden with some of the responsibilities of a hospital orderly. If any patients cause trouble, he’s the one who has to subdue them, so he’s physically strong. More info on the structure of the asylum later…
Ok now about his personality: His default state is “distant, but polite and reliable.” He’s well-liked by his colleagues, though he clearly doesn’t go out of his way to seem likable. Even his speeches so far have all been purely functional, and he doesn’t share with anyone what’s really on his mind…that’s what I mean by distant. What little emotion he shows is directed at Sydney, towards whom he is borderline abusive—but this is more indicative of how Freaks are treated in general, and compared to Dristina and Kennedy, he’s actually pretty civil. Simon is one of the more complex characters and it physically pains me to just leave his description at that, but alas we must wait until the next chapters to get to know him better ;q;
Dristina is the same age as Simon. She’s also a warden, though she also works in the field (that means the city) occasionally. She’s confident and blunt to the point of being nasty…and she backs up all that big talk with action. She’s also pretty shallow and discriminates a lot based on appearances—you may notice that she treats Simon differently than the other guys. It’s pretty much because he’s the hottest one there. You may also have noticed that out of all the characters introduced so far she’s the only girl. I’ll just say that’s not an accident.
Kennedy is 23. Obviously hot-blooded and violent. He works only in the field, hunting and subduing rogue freaks. He’s basically a member of the Asylum’s own police force. Ken raging in the first chapter is not unusual, he’s pretty much always like that. The only person who can calm him down or criticize him is Simon…for a reason that will be made clear later.
Yvonne is 22 and albino. He is the adopted son of the mysterious “Father Bernhard,” who’s a big deal in the Asylum for some reason. He’s a nasty person who takes pleasure in being a little shit to people, especially Simon. He’s the superintendent, and his main job is haunting the hallways and monitoring the goings-on of the Asylum.
East is 18~19ish. A mystery character.
Zephyr (23) is a bit of an idiot…Somehow he’s ranked the top in the Asylum based on his performance in hunting freaks, though you really wouldn’t know it from that anticlimactic battle in Ch1. Also notice his tackyass fashion sense…that awful neck scarf especially. He’s a pretty odd dude. The two unnamed people (Glasses and Little Kid) are his teammates who’ll be introduced later.
Anonymous asked: Sorry, I'm really too shy to come off anon but your comics are amazing! I love the art and it is really structured well.
Oh man oh man thank you *ㅂ* “structured well” omg that is probably the best compliment you could give me, bc I stressed about that so much while drawing ^q^ writing is hard…paneling is so hard…boohoohoo I’m happy people are enjoying my comics ;ㅂ;
Chapter 1, pages 11-18.
Oh god I regret this already. But yeah, next chapter you’ll get to find out what the deal is with the asylum and the “Father” and why Z tries to impale a patient with a javelin as if it’s the most natural thing in the world, and why all the workers are so disorganized and bad at their jobs (and what their jobs actually are).
Chapter 1 of Freak Medley (Pages 1~10. I’ll post 11~18 in a minute.)
So this is that comic I was working on during September. I was rushing to meet a deadline because I made this for a comics club project at my uni. I found that drawing 18 pages in one month while also juggling uni classes and commissions doesn’t yield the best results ever…but Chapter 1 is also not the best chapter in the story so it doesn’t matter much. Also I did about 85% of this traditionally (toned/edited digitally) after not doing much pencil or ink drawings in months and months so it was quite a challenge.
Anyway, I made this story when I was 13 or so, and I haven’t changed the main plot too much since then, just some details, so the basic concept is pretty juvenile. But things do get more interesting as the story progresses. This chapter just does a lot of introducing and raises a lot of questions which will be answered in chapter 2.
Acid Rain and Blood Rain are brothers in the sense that all rain gods are individual entities representing the same Idea, not in that they are actually siblings…I’m itching to tell the story behind this scene, but I’ll have to save it for when I draw their comic because spoilers…TqT
